Reflexology The origins of Reflexology can be traced back to Ancient Egypt evidence of this can be seen in the physician’s tomb at Saqqara dating back to 2330 BC it shows patients receiving treatments on their hands and feet. In Greece 200 AD at Delphi, massage hydrotherapy and reflexology were used to induce well being, relaxation and foresight. Practices akin to Reflexology appear to have been used in early China Japan, India and Russia. Modern day Reflexology has its origins in Zone therapy which was developed by Dr. William H Fitzgerald who divided the body into ten longitude zones the theory being that reflexes operate along these zones and that pressure and stimulation of a reflex could relieve pain affecting organs, body parts and glands within a given zone. Zone Therapy was adopted by Eunice Ingham who developed it further by mapping the entire bodily systems, glands, organs onto the feet. As
a result of stress, injury, trauma illness or disease the body is in
state of imbalance and the vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing
the body from functioning effectively.
